Maggie Fitzpatrick who opens the evening, and introduces Grand Rapids Michigan Mayor George Heartwell, who welcomes everyone to Grand Rapids and the inaugural "International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability".

Mayor -George Heartwell details some of the efforts of the city of Grand Rapids Michigan in trying to take a step towards sustainability by decreasing electricity usage, encouraging the building of LEEDS certified buildings, and signing the mayors' Climate Protection Agreement.
